#261 Life in close quarters can be full on when you're carting your life around on a boat together, so we're spending a bit of time apart as we head back westwards along southern Portugal.
We want to take the varnish off and speak our mind about some issues that we think are important, and give you guys a sense of some aspects of our lives away from the camera.

Thank you for sharing this with us. These moments and challenges you face are equally as important to share as well. It definitely helps others to see the reality. I have always marveled at how well both of you seem to cope with the day-to-day living, running a boat, a RSvid channel and a family. But this is a welcome reminder that we're all human and life isn't always smooth sailing (pun not intended). I've had times in my life where I have seemingly had everything going for me (from an outside perspective) and for some reason, I wasn't as happy during that time as I 'should' have been. I used to struggle with anxiety and depression a lot and I had to make a conscious effort to really stop and be present as much as possible. I've learned how to manage it a lot better now. As you know the highs and lows are normal and we need the contrast to see things clearly and hone in on what it is we really want. Everyone deals with their down times differently but what helped me was finally letting go of any labels I put on myself that I identified with. I was creating a lot of pressure on myself for trying to maintain an unrealistic version of who I thought others wanted me to be. For example, "I'm an actor". I gave it all up during a time I had really gained momentum because it simply wasn't fulfilling me like it used to. And it was honestly the best decision I have ever made. Once I let go of that identification of being an actor it opened up a whole new world for me and it felt extremely liberating. This started a domino effect in all areas of my life and I finally began living life on my terms again. Anyway, I slightly digressed... I don't know if this is relevant to you but I'm sharing this for others as well in case someone can take anything from part of my story too. I'm not sure what you are personally experiencing at the moment but you have the self-awareness, which, in my opinion is half the battle won. I love listening to Tom Bilyeu's Channel 'Impact Theory' and 'Health Theory'. He interviews many people from all walks of life and listening to them has definitely helped me learn a lot about my state of mind and well being. I highly recommend. Thanks again for sharing. Take care and do you :)

It makes sense at the time. Stay apart for awhile, everyone comes back healthier, etc, etc. But those days apart, and everything that could have been in them, are gone forever. Hopefully, burning them makes the future better. Hopefully. My wife of almost 10 years fell ill one Thanksgiving and was dead at 49 by the next Thanksgiving. Every day, I think what else we could've done together, where we could have gone, things we could've seen had we had any idea our time together had months or weeks or hours left in it. Just saying. Be careful tossing away time together. You just never know. Sometimes, when it ends, it ends suddenly. Hopefully, that never comes to pass for you--but if it does, you won't value all that time apart even a little. Trust me on that.

It can't be easy to be so open to the public, I find it difficult to just be open to my partner. So I honestly take my hat off to you as a couple and as a little family. Thank you for sharing what you've shared over the years and good luck in your future endeavours. X

When you open the door and invite the world to become family, the tension only increases. Nothing beats anonymity and the ability to say I hate you , without having to explain it to the neighbors and friends. Of course in a good marriage , a women is secure in saying this because the good husband just wants the storm to end and get back to normal.

Correction ......Maslow's Hierachy of Needs.... I work with young children and families and am not usually surprised when many end in divorce ..... All the usual things when both parents are working full-time with a young family, and don't have paid help or strong family support. Something usually gives as a result of the pressures they place on themselves or necessity. It's a flawed notion that 'women (or at least the primary care giver) can have it all' i.e. family, career while children are very young) The women that do manage to combine a young family with the demands of working career almost always have hired help to do the food shopping, cooking, cleaning, child caring/rearing etc. You both seem to be doing an excellent job with Lenny :)

Aloha, love & blessings, thought I'd share a beautiful quote: “Let there be spaces in your togetherness, And let the winds of the heavens dance between you. Love one another but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls. Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup. Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf. Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone, Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music. Give your hearts, but not into each other's keeping. For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts. And stand together, yet not too near together: For the pillars of the temple stand apart, And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow.” ― Khalil Gibran, The Prophet

I've known about you guys for a while but confess I haven't watched any of your videos until now. And wow, what have I been missing? For all of you La Vagabonde fans from day 1, congrats :). I'm working my way backward so I can stay current! Your latest videos have really pinpointed where I feel like I am at in my own life. Riley's line "I haven't been as happy as I should be lately" has haunted me for the past few weeks since I've watched this. So first off, Riley. I really thank you for sharing this with us. I've gotten the impression that sharing what "boat life" is really like is important to you. I think you've done a great job of this lately and everyone seems to be in full support, keep it up! Second, I have started to listen to the Happiness Lab. I'm also new to the podcast world. Not for lack of interest. More for lack of recommendations. So when someone suggests a podcast recommendation I tend to pounce on it. After listening to most of the first season I keep wondering about what La Vagabonde's experience has been with this. Did you find it helpful? I am curious if you have any suggestions on how to take the content further? How has what you have learned in the Happiness Lab influence how you spend your day to day lives? Really glad I picked up watching you when I did. Thanks for inspiring a sense of adventure in all of us!

Why not move back to Australia and run a sailing charter business which will go gangbusters with all your fame. You could also teach courses on how to run a RSvid channel. Then you can have a house on land, connections with friends, and your child can be surrounded by cousins, grandparents, other kids at daycare, etc.? Do you really want to deny your child those connections and opportunities so you can run a reality TV channel? I don't mean to be harsh and I am sure you have thought of all the options. You three are an inspiration and have touched so many lives.

O miseras hominum mentes, o pectora caeca! Qualibus in tenebris vitae quantisque periclis degitur hoc aevi quodcumquest! Nonne videre nil aliud sibi naturam latrare, nisi utqui corpore seiunctus dolor absit, mente fruatur iucundo sensu cura semota metuque Bye

Absolutely amazing episode! I think one of your best! Riley a thanks especially for sharing as a man your emotional challenges! Elayna we so appreciate your honesty and amazing bravery through your own anxieties! I read a book a couple of months ago by Dr Wayne Dyer, he speaks about Divine Synchronicity- it’s when things just happen or show up when we need it most! I have watched 2 episodes where you guys spoke about being real and that our emotions just happen in-spite of our ‘perfect surroundings’. At the time I really needed to hear this. So often we say words like ... oh how I wish could just sail off into the sunset ... with no worries... Thanks for your amazing input into our lives. Truly you guys are amazing! Love to you from us Grant and Laraine Botha South Africa

Another thing too, just from a man to man perspective dont get yah self twisted over resenting your children when there at that age , naturally you love them but it's also very natural to kinda not like them too , they are hard work , they cant talk , they just cry to comunicaten , and its handy to leave it up to mum at that age cause they like her better, for comfort etc . Mums probably buggered too When he starts to become a little older look out the real fun begins and that's when the real best mate relationships start and yourself and mum grow another leg ,

It would be more shocking if the two of you always pretended things are going great. It's normal, but there's going to be a need for space. Momma needs her time with her friends and without them, but certainly needs to be given time without Lenny. Children are attention seekers and energy grabbers. We had four. The two of you need someone on land for a day or so to watch over your child while you get some time together. Life has it's ups and downs, I wish the both of you the best.

A problem for me in many relationships is that I'm introverted. It's not that I don't like you it's that when I'm alone I recharge. I enjoy peace and solidarity but many don't understand it and think I'm just being un caring.
