Coach greg now i have to thank you there personaly becose i am with low back injury since i was 18 years old (25 now) i couldnt alomost move. And all i saw all these years in youtube was deadlift deadlift deadlift deadlift. So that got me in to thinking that i will never be able to build muscle. After 2 years of training i know for fact that thats not the case and i am happy to see finaly someone speak the truth out there.

Is it worth doing lower back exorcizes to strengthen it and reduce the chance of injury? I do a lot of heavy lifting for my job, and my while my lower back doesn't give me any pain, I can tell it is my weakest point. I can feel it straining sometimes and worry I could hurt something.

I had to undergo an l4 l5 fusion because of bentover and dead lifts. I only do Greg's primary exercises and my back feels great. When i do deadlift i use dumbells from the side and at almost upright i pull my shoulders up and back into my back till i'm upright. Then i hold a second and drop the bells under control to my sides. When i do this i'm sore the next day but it's the good sore.

So I want some opinions about something I heard: It was from one of the strongman competitors when he was on the Joe Rogan podcast. He said that deadlift isn’t worth the possible injury, like the risk reward isn’t worth it. He said if you go into a professional football/sport facility you will never see them deadlift because it’s not worth the injury possibility. Thoughts?

8:00 doctor deadlift/cailar whollom does heavy heavy rows, and he swears by using momentum and some cheating for gains, what's your opinion on these?

@Billy Two Cents sure but the risk to reward ratio is way too high in my opinion. I personally think the best gains are the one’s you are not at risk of losing due to an injury. I also just find in general that barbell rows are just extra lower back fatigue when you’re also doing deadlifts and squats in your program. You can work the upper-back just as well doing chest-supported rows while not having to worry about your lower back.

@David Aronson true, but both grow together, if you can cheat row heavier weight you can use that to increase your strict and you size.

He’s a powerlifter, not a bodybuilder. Most of us are working out to get jacked, not super strong too. Heavy Cheat rows are mostly for strength honestly and the risk of injury is not worth it for the average person who is just lifting to look better.

What about meadows rows instead of seated chest suported row? You can do those with only barbell (that is plus with limited equipment at home) and i find it quite easy on my lower back.

I just recently started incorporating supine grip lat pulldowns. I have to say, each set I have done (when focusing on pulling with the back) has hit my back super hard. My lats fail first, and cramp up and burn and get pumped like crazy. I think it's easy to let your biceps take over, but just focus and pull with your back.

I think dumbell rows are freaking awesome. Love to do them and they dont hurt my lower back. Also no need to do hyperextensions if you do deadlifts. Sometimes when i hit failure i grap the pulldown with a supinated grip to get some extra reps, but the overhand grip hits my back better i agree

Most people have bad backs because they don't train lower back / abs. They have weak cores. I started doing deadlifts and I have no more back pain. Gone.

People train rear delts on back day because most back exercises engage the rear delts significantly, it’s completely different from training the triceps on a back day

Worst one I see at my gym a lot of people doing, not back related but still, I don't know what they're doing or if I'm missing something, but these guys aren't really big or anything, and using ego weight. Imagine doing a one handed cable chest fly, but instead of keeping your arm slightly bent and bring it forwards and outwards you bend and swing your arm inwards towards your chest and then continue pushing it outwards towards your other side. If that explanation makes sense. One of these guys also do bent down 25 degrees hammer curl with way too much weight lol.
